October is National Special Needs Law Month
National Special Needs Law Month is a grassroots effort established by The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) to help people with disabilities and their families understand special needs planning and the resources available to them.
Special needs planning can involve:
• Special needs trusts
• Care management
• Advocacy to preserve educational or civil rights
• Public benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid
• Other important issues
During the month of October, special needs planning attorneys across the country reach out to their community and clients through a variety of activities in an effort to educate those with special needs, their families, and caregivers.
Topics of particular importance include:
• Financing long-term care
• Care management
• Special needs trusts
• SSI and Medicaid rules and regulations
“NAELA member attorneys are dedicated to advocating for the rights of people with disabilities and assisting them and their families on legal matters,” said NAELA President Michael J. Amoruso, Esq., CAP, Fellow. “This annual event gives members a chance to connect with members of their community and provide important resources.”
